Professor Weber's Expert Insights into Crypto-Asset Regulation

Navigating the Complex Landscape of Cryptocurrency Laws and Regulations

On December 4, 2023, Asian Center for WTO & International Health Law and Policy hosted a topical speech titled "Regulation of Crypto-assets in a Decentralized Environment" delivered by Professor Rolf H. Weber, an world expert in international finance, international trade, and digital law from Zurich University. Professor Weber is currently the co-director of the Research Program on Financial Market Regulation, the Center for Information Technology, Society, and Law, and the Blockchain Center at Zurich University. He is also a Senior Editorial Board memberfor the SSCI-indexed journal Asian Journal of WTO & International Health Law and Policy (AJWH) published by our Center.

 

Professor Weber's speech provided critical insights into the complex and evolving world of crypto-asset regulation, addressing the challenges and implications in a decentralized financial environment. He specifically introduced the regulatory approaches adopted in Switzerland, the European Union, and the United States. He also visited Taiwan’s recent efforts in regulating crypto-asset service providers and provided his comments. He finally emphasized the need for proactive regulation in the crypto-asset sector and advocated a balanced approach that fosters innovation while safeguarding against risks associated with these new forms of assets.
