2011-12 WTO Moot Court

2011-2012 is the tenth of the ELSA Moot Court Competition on WTO Law. It is also the 8th time of NTU College of Law to participate this well known moot court competition. To commemorate the 10th anniversary, the moot problem touched upon certain remarkable issues, including MFN among WTO members and FTA partners, safeguard measure, double remedy on safeguard measure and countervailing duties, and substantial liberalization under free trade area. Particularly the fact of the case indicated the importance of the environmental protection and technology development.

NTU team of 2011-2012 was joined by students from college, LL.M., as well as student coaches and academic advisors who were the mooters previously. We participated the Asia Pacific Regional Round held in Jakarta, Indonesia in March. We got the second place in the grand final, best overall memorial and best oralist. We also participated the Final Oral Round held in Montpellier, France in May. In the Final Oral Round, we made into the quarter final, competing with other teams from universities all over the world.

We spent nearly 9 months devoting ourselves in the competition. From knowledge learning, issue exploring, argument making, oral submission practicing, we understood how the world trade legal framework works and how to make legal arguments. We also learned from each other, did our best as a strong team. The WTO moot court memories is the best of our life as a law school student, it also deeply influenced our view to the world.
