2012-13 WTO Moot Court


The 2012/13 moot court team represented National Taiwan University in participating in ELSA Moot Court Competition on WTO law, Asia-pacific Regional Round, held in Taipei, Taiwan, on 4th to 8th March, 2013.


The team received the honor of best overall written submission, and finished 6th place in the Asia-pacific Regional Round.


The team was coached by Alex Yueh-ping Yang (SJD candidate, Harvard University), Peggy Pin-hsien Lee (LLM, National Taiwan University), and Chih-wei Hsu (LLB and BA in Economics, National Taiwan University). The team was composed of four team members — Kai-wei Jan, Ming-Hsi Chu, Shan-ying Suk, and the team captain, Kang-hsuan Huang. The team had a very young composition. Half of the team members were undergraduate students enrolled in National Taiwan University, department of law.

        

The center of debate for the 2012/13 ELSA Moot Court Competition on WTO Law was international finance issues. The team dealt with various issues such as financial regulation and currency manipulation under the context of General Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS), General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT), and International Monetary Fund (IMF) stipulations. The Asian Center of World Trade and Health provided rigorous inter-disciplinary training in Laws, trade, finance and economics to the team in preparing for the competition.
