Call for Papers
2017 Taipei International Conference on
Arbitration and Mediation
The Chinese Arbitration Association, Taipei (CAA, Taipei) and the Asian Center for WTO & International Health Law and Policy, College of Law, National Taiwan University (ACWH) are to jointly host the annual event “2017 Taipei International Conference on Arbitration and Mediation” on August 28 & 29, 2017 in Taipei (The Grand Hotel), Taiwan. The conference invites arbitration experts and scholars to provide the latest academic findings and case studies on any one of the following topics:
1. What Factors Define the Nature of an Arbitration as an Ad hoc or Institutional One
2. Scrutiny Issue and Its Relation to the Nature of an Arbitration as an Ad hoc or Institutional One
3. Transparency, Enforcement, Ethics and Fee, and Their Relations to the Nature of an Arbitration as an Ad hoc or Institutional One
4. Other Fundamental Issues and Recent Development in Commercial Arbitration
5. Investment Arbitration
6. Recent Development of International Mediation
In addition to the above topics, we also welcome papers addressing any issues concerning the new “CAA Hong Kong International Arbitration Rules”, which will be published on March 31, 2017. (http://en.arbitration.org.tw)
I. Important Dates
Deadline will be based on Taipei time.
1. Full paper submission deadline: May 31, 2017
2. Full paper acceptance notification: June 10, 2017
3. Conference dates: August 28 & 29, 2017
II. Review process
1. The review process: Applicants will need to submit their full papers before the submission deadline.
2. Applicants of papers passing the review process could be invited to present their papers in a session at the conference. The host will provide local accommodation during the conference. Some could also be invited to submit their papers to the Contemporary Asia Arbitration Journal (CAAJ) to be peer-reviewed for possible publication.

III. Award
The best paper selected by the Review Committee will be granted an award of USD 500 for his/her airfare to travel to Taipei for the Conference and a certificate jointly issued by the CAA, Taipei and the ACWH. The author has to present his/her paper at the Conference so as to be qualified for this USD 500 reimbursement. The host will provide local accommodation during the conference. In the case of co-authorship, the co-authors will share the USD 500 reimbursement and only one author will be provided with the local accommodation.
IV. Conference/Paper Language
All papers need to be written and presented in English.
V. Guideline for Paper Submission
1. The total number of words in the content of an article for submission should be between 5,000 to 10,000 words. Authors are strongly encouraged to use blue book citation for their submissions.
2. Applicants have to submit the submission and curriculum vitae in the format of a Word file or PDF file to wtocenter@ntu.edu.tw.
