Asian Center for WTO & International Health Law and Policy proudly co-hosted the 2025 Taipei International Conference on Arbitration and Mediation with the Chinese Arbitration Association, Taipei on October 28–29, 2025.

With the theme “The 40th Anniversary of the UNCITRAL Model Law and the 70th Anniversary of the CAA,” the conference gathered leading scholars and practitioners to discuss the UNCITRAL Model Law’s evolution, implementation, and future development, as well as other key arbitration issues.

The conference started with the opening remarks by Mr. Yeong-Chyan Wu, Chair of CAA, and Prof. Yueh-Ping (Alex) Yang, Director of ACWH, followed by keynote speeches by Dr. Chang-Fa Lo, former Permanent Representative of Taiwan to the World Trade Organization, who addressed how Trump’s tariff policies impact international investment practices and orders and the importance of maintaining robust international dispute resolution against this background.

The conference proceeded with six engaging panel sessions, in which participants examined critical topics related to the UNCITRAL Model Law, including its challenges posed by geopolitical confrontation, the changing foundations regarding consents, its applications to crypto-asset disputes, and its comparative implementation in common law jurisdictions, civil law jurisdictions, and the Asia-Pacific region.

The conference concluded with the closing remarks by Dr. Helena Chen, Chairperson of the Taiwan Bar Association’s ADR Committee, and Prof. Yueh-Ping (Alex) Yang, who conveyed sincere gratitude to the speakers, moderators, and all participants in the conference.
