2005-2006 ELSA Moot Court Competition Asia Regional Round

For a number of years, the European Law Students’ Association (ELSA) has organized local moot court competitions as part of its commitment to contribute to legal education and to assist its Members - law students and young graduates - to become professionally skilled.

Entering the new millennium, European Law Students’ Association (ELSA) considered it beneficial to develop “the moot court experience” into an international moot court competition aimed at contributing towards the development of law students worldwide. Consequently, ELSA created the ELSA Moot Court Competition on the Law of the World Trade Organization (EMC²) as the organization addressing important global economic issues. The main goals of the Competition are both to encourage further developments on the subject matter in the curriculum of academic institutions and also to contribute to the ongoing discussion about globalization in the context of WTO agreements. Participants will not only have the opportunity to polish their research skills regarding WTO, but also to cultivate their professional capabilities as well as meet and learn from outstanding scholars and practitioners from all over the world.

The 1st edition of the EMC² was held in Geneva, Switzerland in 2003 with teams from the ELSA Network and the USA. For the 2nd edition, teams from Australia were included. In 2005, teams from Latin America and Hong Kong also competed. By increasing new regional rounds, the 4th edition has broadened the scope of the participant teams to law students from more WTO Member or Observer States. Nowadays, EMC² is one of the most prominent international moot court competitions organized annually.
